No. The closest ATM or bank is in Constitucion which is 1.5 hours away.
Are credit cards accepted?
No. The Scorpion Bay Hotel accepts credit cards but there are no other places in town that do.
What is the preferred currency?
Pesos are the accepted currency. Some places will accept dollars but you will get a poor exchange rate of 10 to 1. Exchanging currency prior to arriving in San Juanico will usually yield an 11 or 12 to 1 rate.
Can you exchange money for pesos?
No. Bring your own pesos.
Is electricity available 24/7?
No. Currently San Juanico is only able to provide electricity to the town half of the day. The current schedule is on from 5 am to 11 am, off from 11 am to 5 pm, on from 5 pm to 11 pm, and off from 11 pm to 5 am. Every place in town on the grid is effected by this schedule including our Hotel.
Is there reliable internet at the Hotel?
Yes and no. We subscribe to the best option available to us but it is via satellite and weather can affect our signal. Our wireless signal is strong throughout the Hotel’s premises but it is subject to the internet’s availability. The internet is connected to the town’s electrical grid and is not available when the grid is down.
Is there cell phone service?
No. Even Mexican cell phone service is not available. There is one place in town that gets sporadic service from AT&T but it is not reliable.
Are there landlines in San Juanico?
Yes. There is a market in town that offers pay phones.
Where is the Scorpion Bay Hotel located?
It is located in the pueblo and 2 blocks from the First Point beach.
What type of electrical outlets are used at the Hotel?
All outlets are standard for the US/Mexico. International adapters are not necessary.
